The Federal Reserve raised its benchmark rate by a quarter point to a target range of 3.75%–4%, citing persistent inflation
The Fed has raised its rate to 3.75-4.00%, its first increase since 2023 and its first move of any kind since the cut in December 2025. The rate it sets is what banks pay to borrow from each other overnight, and it reaches this index in two places.
The Fed is about to raise rates for the first time in three years. The dot plot matters more.
Dow Jones tech titan Apple, along with Nvidia chipmaker TSMC, AMD and Bloom Energy, are in or near buy zones in Tuesday's market action.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average trades just above 52,100 and has spent the morning going nowhere, on the day the Federal Reserve is expected to raise its rate for the first time since 2023. That is not indifference.
US stock index futures pointed to a higher opening on Wednesday as crude oil prices declined and investors awaited the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision later in the day. The indicated rebound followed two consecutive sessions of losses that pushed the S&P 500 to its lowest closing level in more than a month.
S&P 500 futures rise before the Fed, but a 5% 10-year yield and oil near $105 keep stock market risk in play.
The stock market rally suffers further damage, but isn't done yet.
Overnight, the Dow Jones and Nasdaq Composite crashed from 200 points to 330 points, while the S&P 500 followed the bearish trend. Meanwhile, on September 16, ahead of the Fed outcome, all US stock futures traded higher as the market widely predicted the largest central bank to deliver their first rate hike in 3 years.
According to CME FedWatch data, there is a 92.4% probability that the Fed will hike interest rates by 25 basis points from the current 3.50% to 3.75%.
