The Philippine Senate has approved a bill that would prohibit people under 18 from holding or using social-media accounts, setting up a potential clash with a House proposal that would allow teenagers access under stricter safeguards. The Senate measure would require platforms to implement age assurance and designate local representatives, while the House bill would restrict algorithm-driven feeds, harmful advertising, AI features and communications with unknown adults. The House proposal still requires final approval, and differences between the two chambers' approaches may need to be reconciled before legislation can become law.
